ForeverLawn rolls out K9Grass at the 22nd annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade
October 17, 2012 (New York, NY) – Tompkins Square Park, a vibrant park in the heart of the East Village, will host the twenty-second annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade on Saturday, October 20, from Noon to 3:00 p.m. Home to the first dog park that the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation ever built, Tompkins Square Park currently contains the largest dog run in New York City. The dog park runs entirely on community donations for its upkeep and financial support, which is made possible by Friends of First Run, a 501(c)(3) organization designated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation for the support of Tompkins Square dog run. This year, in addition to the creative canine costumes, fun, and prizes, the event will give New Yorkers the chance to see, touch, and experience an exciting pet surfacing product that offers significant benefits to dogs and their pet parents: K9Grass by ForeverLawn. Participants and spectators will have the opportunity to walk and play on K9Grass with their dogs in the judging circle, where the grass will be on display.
K9Grass is an artificial grass designed specifically for dogs by ForeverLawn, the leading synthetic grass company. ForeverLawn developed the specifically-engineered grass to solve the many problems that dog use brings to common pet surfaces such as natural grass and gravel, and it has been performing exceptionally well in parks, dog boarding facilities, veterinary clinics, and backyards nationwide for many years. “Dogs need a clean, safe place to exercise and play, especially in the city where most people don’t have yards,” said Susan Alexander, owner of ForeverLawn Metro. “Tompkins Square Dog Run was recently upgraded to a gravel surface for improved drainage, which is so important in an area where liquid waste exists. K9Grass provides the same drainage benefits as gravel, but offers many more valuable benefits to the park. The green K9Grass surface beautifies the park, provides a soft, cushioned surface for dogs’ paws and joints, keeps dogs cleaner by eliminating the dust and dirt found in gravel surfaces, reduces costly and time-consuming maintenance, and stays even and consistent since it is not prone to holes from digging or displacement of gravel. It is performs well in all types of weather, so it won’t turn to mud when it rains.”
K9Grass by ForeverLawn provides a safe, durable, attractive solution for dog park developers that allows the parks to stay open year-round, in all types of weather. Several key features are responsible for the durability and weather resistance of K9Grass that address drainage, waste management, and cleanliness. These features offer superior alternatives to other surfacing options such as natural grass, concrete, or gravel. Unlike these common park surfaces, K9Grass can be installed both indoors and out.
Immediate and effective drainage is critical in areas where many dogs are depositing liquid waste. K9Grass offers an exclusive knitted flow-through backing for immediate drainage. This unique backing allows liquid waste, as well as rain, to drain through effectively, maximizing cleanliness and resistance to weather.
Many dog parks across the country are choosing K9Grass for its weather resistance, cleanliness, durability, and beauty, including Central Park Dog Park in Fremont, Calif., the largest dog park in the country. “We did extensive research into the best surface for the Central Park Dog Park, including site visits to other dog parks in the Bay Area, to see how other synthetic turf products were performing,” said associate landscape architect Mark Mennucci. “We wanted to avoid muddy, unsanitary conditions, improve permeability, reduce heavy odors, and maximize the time that the park would be open to the community. We felt K9Grass allowed us to meet our goals, and cut down on costly maintenance. We have received excellent feedback from park users about the K9Grass.”
The City of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department chose KGrass for their Schuylkill River Park Dog Run late last year, after their Design Concept Team found it to be “the best and safest surface available.”
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa, Fla., is considered the crown jewel of the city’s urban parks. The dog park features K9Grass, which integrates perfectly with the riverwalk, the Glazer Children’s Museum, the Tampa Museum of Art and downtown, giving dogs a safe, green place to exercise and play. While more and more dog park developers are choosing K9Grass for their projects, the product is also available for veterinary facilities, backyard dog runs, dog boarding facilities, and even indoor dog facilities. The K9Grass patent-pending indoor flushing system provides an effective way to create an indoor area for dogs with soft, attractive K9Grass. ForeverLawn also offers unique portable in-home solutions to urban pet parents who don’t have grass for their pets, including their popular K9Grass Mats and K9 Potties.
